Posted by BJ Park on April 27th, 2008

The post of (Chief Information Officer) CIO is particularly important when the information that we are referring to, is Google’s. The previous CIO Douglas Merril left Google three weeks ago to join EMI Music’s digital Music business as president.

Google has hired Ben Fried, who was a manager handing application Infrastructure in Morgan Stanley. Jeffrey Lindsay, who specializes in analysing Internet companies said that Fried was a really good choice.

Fried joined Morgan Stanley as a programmer, and for 14 years he has worked his way up through Morgan Stanley. Lindsay says that if he was able to do that, then that was a particularly impressive trait in itself. It shows that he is a natural leader, and can get along with people. Also, his performance would have to be very impressive to get that for in Morgan Stanley.

Also, Fried will be able to transfer his skills in maintaining and managing technology from Morgan Stanley to Google. Since technology is a key component, both in Google, and in Morgan Stanley, Fried is well suited to becoming the CIO. Also, Google Finance will receive a boost with him around, as he will be able to give significant input with his knowledge of financial systems.
